Pacuare River Rafting |
This trip can be made round trip from San Jose in one, two, or three days. A bus picks you up at your hotel. If your are the first pick up you get a tour of San Jose and several hotels. Once loaded, the bus leaves town to the north and east on Highway 3. You cross the continental divide, stop to look from a bridge at the merging of a clear river and muddy river. We turn off the highway on a gravel road arriving at the rafting headquarters for breakfast, issuing gear and instructions. We get back in the bus for a short ride up the mountain. We transfer to a wagon drawn by a tractor for the awesome ride down the step decent to the river put-in. The day trips quickly leave. The 2 and 3 day customers get to take our time and enjoy the river. We stop to surf holes, swim in rapids, and have a break for lunch on a beach. We arrive at their permanent river lodging. After cabin assignments, we make a short bird hike. Then relax on the river overlook during the late afternoon rain. The next morning there is time to see more birds, swing from a zip line, or swim in a pool at the bottom of a water fall. The blue morphs buterfly dart around the trees at river edge shining in the sun. We return to the rafts for the fianl part of our trip. Entering a narrow canyon with additional water in the river from the rain up the drainage basin. Lots of technical rapids completes a fine raft trip.
